I was in a meeting with a Professor of Nursing on 911 when she received a phone call from her husband. We then viewed the horrific pictures being streamed live from the Twin Towers, New York and the chaos in Manhattan as people rushed away from the scene covered in ash and blood. The news reporters were objective and managed to keep from breaking down as we at home were too frequently doing.
All communication was cutt off and I was unable to use the public phone or internet. I went to the Catholic Shrine, on campus. In the basement several of the priests and their leadership were viewing media streaming in from New York and now included the Pentagon. I left to gather what I needed to get out of DC asap and could hear F16 fighter jets roaring overhead. I realized that we were at war and like everyone else I didn't know what to expect next.
On my way up to the Gettysburg/Hanover area in PA I stopped at my usual place - a farm stand just off the highway. It was essentially a shed in the front yard of the farm house property and I had never seen Muslims there before that fatal day nor since. A couple who were Middle Eastern - he had a cell phone clipped to his belt and she wore an ankle lenght gown with a scarf over her head and shoulders. We exchanged awkward glances as I spoke briefly with the young man from the farm who told me that a plane had gone down in PA nearby. He also told me that Camp David stood behind the farm ground I was standing on. I felt an inner conflict about leaving the young man there with the unusual visitors. I later found out through a friend in Hanover that her husband had seen the plane go over their neighborhood with fighter gets on either side barley high enough to skim over houses and tree tops. The fighter jets later returned and circled over a Muslim School/Camp site nearby for a period of time.
I headed up to Hanover where I met with a friend who happens to be from Egypt and is Muslim. He seemed surprized and disgusted at what we viewed together on the TV. His brother who lives in the DC area had advised him when they moved to the US not to attend Mosques because of their potential for promoting a political agenda. I thought that this was a smart move.
Someone whom I follow and believe is getting a clear and decisive message out to the world is Geert Wilders, a Dutch politician as he calls Islam like it is! Go to this site and see. http://www.crossmuslims.com/ for more information.
