Sandra Yancy has posted an opening for a Director and this would be a synch for any nurse who has established a network of contacts. I had met the Marketing Director at KU at a meeting in the past. I am not sure of the requirements but suggest that you join Sandra's network anyway to get in the loop with people who can help your business grow.
CNA's write about their experiences It's not hard to imagine how difficult it is for staff at all levels caring for patients in care homes where one describes obstacles such as getting the patient's right clothes from the laundry which is a concern that Rebecca Prideaux see The Daily Telegraph had with a facility she had inspected when working for the CQC - Care Quality Commission. The facility responded that she had been told not to enter the room of a dying patient. Well isn't that a bite! A facility needs to be open and transparent and should not have situations that need to be improved blocked from an inspection. I am sure that Ms. Prideaux would have been supportive and empathetic with the patient's husband. She was a police officer for 7 years prior to becoming an inspector with the CQC. The Daily Telegraph reports about Ms. Prideaux's treatment after she disclosed the condition of the woman who was left with poor personal hygiene her husband sitting at her bedside. She was doing her job! I wish more people would be proactive for those who are vulnerable instead of glossing over the realities as some new employees have done saying essentially that every thing is to their satisfaction training wise. Thank you Ms. Prideaux for rocking the boat and I hope you will find a role to continue to support those who need your candidness.
In the US where the care providers go through a course and have to pass exams in order to work in the clinical setting. The tests are in English and must be passed at a set competency level which is around 80-85%. It may vary from program to program, but the program's I have seen, students were not allowed to do make up tests or take a failed test over again. The Certified Nurses Assistant (CNA) then is licensed by the state in which the exam is taken. Licenses are renewed annually. An example curriculum from the Nevada Nursing Board.
The National Audit Office (NAO) National Audit Office reported that there were 21,600 providers now registered although the process has not gone smoothly since the opening of the Care Quality Commission's in 2009, which was a union of three former regulators. Entry level qualifications can be reviewed at http://www.skillsforcare.org.uk/qualifications_and_training/adultsocialcarequalifications/entry_qualifications.aspx. The course work and exams are in English.
A Dignified Revolution is committed to improving care for patients and to help support those who are working in environments which are challenging. A course if offered to help care providers deal with bullying in the workplace for instance. Tackling problems that exist will benefit both patients and workers.
Julie Fagan http://www.suspension-nhs.org/nhssuspensionhelp.htm has resources on the website for the National Campaign against suspension in the NHS should the clinician encounter charges from an employer that arises out of a complaint that can be made basically by anybody (patient, family member, co-worker, supervisor etc.)
Working as a team member means that we have to understand each other's roles, especially for the nurse who delegates to care providers. It is important to communicate effectively and courteously and to learn how to deal with bullying and how to defend your license which can be put on the line. That's something that each of us have to accept and come to terms. We are vulnerable to having complaints made and investigations charges made.
My very best wishes are with you all as you work through the process once charges are filed against you. Be sure to follow guidance given by experts such as lawyers; websites such as those listed and remember to pray and meditate daily.
