Private hospitals are also failing in the UK,' writes Colin Leys in the Guardian Newspaper, but 'we just don't hear about it.'   According to the article the CAC found that there were not enough nurses, staff were not properly trained, poor record keeping, incorrect labels attached to lab samples, blood transfusions were outdated, resuscitation equipment was broken and no or checks made to make sure surgical instruments were not properly accounted for.  He concludes that the CQC reports show that private hospitals can be sometimes a dangerous places.
I spoke with a nurse recently who became sick after she had raised issues at work with a private hospital where she worked only to find that she could not return to her job and subsequently lost her claim at an employment tribunal.  I feel for her because she experienced what many others have who have gone before her.
