http://www.pcaw.org.uk/?utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Whistleblowing+Newsletter+Issue+91+12+December+2013&utm_content=Whistleblowing+ Public Concern at Work has a video about a nurse who is a whistle blower. Know that this organization is there to help those who would be otherwise intimidated by the organizations they work for.
http://www.jointcommission.org/r3_report_explains_new_clinical_alarm_npsg/ The Joint Commission has focused on a very important feature that hospitals rely on when attention is needed because of an emergency or a patient needs care. The DailyTelegraph http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/healthnews/10486246/Fault-sees-bugs-pumped-into-hospital-ventilation-system.html
http://www.mindmovies.com/loatraining/free_flow_energy.php recently wrote about a situation in an operating theater where staff had to throw items into the hallway to alert staff that they needed help - the help was needed immediately - there was a life threatening emergency.
I think that when it comes to design and functionality that it would behoove architects and planners to bring nurses to the table because they are aware of how the systems are supposed to work and when in charge of operating theaters they know that they are responsible to close theaters when their is contamination from i.e. a leak in the ceiling.
My goal in writing this blog is to reach out to nurses who have encountered problems with their license and are unable to work. My wish is that you will see clearly and experience that you have more control over things than you think. http://www.ted.com/talks/viktor_frankl_youth_in_search_of_meaning.html Victor Frankl is a great role model when we have to confront our own reality. Every time you feel a certain way that makes you feel down due to your thinking decide what took you there and why you chose to go. It comes down to your knowing and personal choice. We may not like what happened and I will write a bit about http://www.vqsolutions.com/sites/default/files/NR_PressRelease_web.pdf Karl G. Schoemer's writing about the four dynamics of change and the importance of adapting to change as quickly as possible. From my experience I think that nurses who have a disciplinary action or suspension/revocation experience alienation from their peers who do not recognize that it could happen to any one who has a license. They take the attitude of SEP or Someone else's problem and we remain basically invisible as a group of people. The four dynamics of change are:
- A sense of loss
- Ambiguity and uncertainty
- Deterioration of Trust
- Withdrawl and self-preservation
Similar to the Stages of Grief delineated by Elizabeth Kubler Ross on Death and Dying: Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, Acceptance. We feel:
- Betrayal
- Denial
- Identity Crisis
- Solutions
In the Denial stage which comes after you have moved through the initial shock and disbelief, you begin to feel anxiety and pain. You begin to focus on preserving the status quo. You may find yourself thinking or saying 'This will blow over...'
In the Identity Crisis there will be a level of resistance and acceptance of the fact that you have an investigation against you and possible charges made. You may find yourself thinking or saying to yourself 'This isn't what I became a nurse for.' And then you will begin a process of self analysis when you will find yourself thinking and asking yourself questions such as: Will I be able to adapt? What am I going to do?
Then you will move on to a Solutions stage where you will seek positive input from others and come up with some ideas with how to cope yourself. It's like seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.
Stay Positive
Make a chart with two columns one with a list of negatives and the other positives about how this change will help you move forward with your life and recognize your limits. Enter your list of positives and negatives and then write a corresponding action that will help you to take advantage of it. For the negatives think of an action that will help you minimize the problem.
Remember that you are not alone and that there are nurses who are undergoing their own process with dealing with an investigation on through revocation of a license. Focus on your personal and spiritual development and expand to become a greater person out of this apparent adversity. Pick a role model and study their lives, find out what motivates them; how they deal with change; how they overcame their own adversity and fears; what are their beliefs and how does this build resiliency? The list can go on down the path that you wish to take. Always look for the highest and grow as others who have seemingly had a silver spoon too encounter emotional hurts and disappointment.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sAJDvENzqW4 Emmy Lou Harris and Mark Knopfler sing 'Right Now' and this is the best place to be and your responsibility to ask 'Where are you right now.' Journal, meditate and eat a vegetarian diet. All the best! http://www.crystalinks.com/automatic_writing.html Read this link and try automatic writing.
Warm Wishes, Rita.
