Uncertainty

Families today are faced with challenges that only are similar to those faced by their grandparents during the great depression.  I have raised my daughter and now have a grandson who is almost three years old.  Each time I turn on the television there is a reminder of the amount of dept for which future generations will be responsible.  On top of national dept we have individual state dept where we live.

Families are a microcosm of society and we can see our society reeling with the effects of budget shortfalls.  Union members take to the streets and Senators flee state capitols in Wisconsin and Indiana.  Parents have to be worried as to whether there will be schools and teachers for their children’s education.  One state quoted a ratio of 60 students per teacher which sounds way out of control and an impossible learning situation.
Children and adolescents feel the impact of these conflicts and look to adults to problem solve and handle conflict constructively.  They are probably not as engrossed in the news coverage as their parents though they sense the uncertainty about their futures.  If parents have jobs then the family is likely to feel less stress.  Meeting the bills and keeping a roof over their heads is the first priority.  One adolescent I met on the West Coast suffered from depression and anxiety because his home had been repossessed.
Things may still become more uncertain and it’s important to know how to handle stress.  Finding inner balance and keeping free from anxiety is key to being able to concentrate and focus on the future.  Our mental outlook colors our emotions and attitude.  We need to remain positive and that can sound like a lofty ideal until you practice the steps to achieve equipoise.  The philosophy of positive thinking and enlightened living has been taught by sages and Saints who know the value of finding peace and stability within one’s own soul is a step toward peace for all humanity.
There are three components to achieving inner equipoise.  First there has to be a daily practice of meditation.  Meditation is the key to success in all other realms of life.  That is why you often see that the lives of the privileged and lucky are sometimes lacking basic happiness because they lack a spiritual contentedness and resilience that can only be found through going through some tough times and learning how to tap into your inner source of power.
Secondly you will need to monitor thoughts, feelings and actions.  Journal as a tool and to be more specific categorizes areas of your life and honestly evaluate whether the way you reacted to a situation was acceptable.  You are the one to evaluate and through the process of honest introspection determine where you have fallen short of your personal goals for improvement and implement the necessary changes.
Thirdly be conscious and careful about the decisions and choices you make so that you lead an ethical life.  For instance if you were to be audited by the IRS be confident and have a clear conscience about the outcome.  The French have a saying: A clear conscience is like a feather pillow on which to rest ones head at night and sleep ease-fully.
I am a Life Coach and work with individual's who wish to transcend their emotional ups and down and find success in an area that holds special meaning to you as well as others who can benefit.
