Some ideas about business start-ups from home.

Whenever a nurse is investigated the work environment needs to be looked at as a whole.  Bullying is a behavior that should not be tolerated by professionals.  Quite often the assumption that people hold is that this bullying behavior is part of keeping high standards of clinical care.  Nothing can be further from the truth and when people learn to deal with issues in a constructive manner instead of bullying it creates a win-win situation.  Documentation is necessary, but polite and professional communication is essential.  Co-operation is necessary for every nurse on the team.  www.wandsworthguardian.co.uk had a story about a nurse named Bolaji Amosu who had worked at the prison for three years and said that he had been bullied at his workplace.  The two charges that were published involved using computer log in details belonging to another nurse which he said was not unusual.  I suspect that he was right and I hope that the computer records could be checked against the staff members working on each shift to verify his claim.  Because passwords are changed frequently according to the particular policies of the institution nurses may encounter difficulties getting logged in.  The second charge was in placing a medication in a container that he had already recorded as given for a different patient.  It didn't say that he had made a medication error, or given the wrong medication to either patient.
www.FierceHealthcare.com published an article by Sack Budryk, 'Medical Disrespect' which was published in Aeon Magazine, London.  He spoke about 'micro-aggressions' which are negative behaviors that are done to erode the self-esteem and confidence of a co-worker.  Examples are exasperated sighs, a sarcastic tone, the dismissal of alternative ideas.  This leaves the victim feeling like a burden to other team members.  'These are acts that affect our state of mind in small but cumulative ways.  This is the stuff that creates a culture.'  It is not something to be admired or to think that the bully is in control and knows what he/she is doing, because most likely it's the exact opposite.   A person who is competent and really sure of who they are and what they are capable of doing does not feel the need to put others down.  In fact they use role modeling and mentoring and clear and open communication.  A bully is a coward and make no mistake about it!
The author points to lack of or poor communication as a key factor in medical errors.  'A Substantial body of data attributes medical errors to interactions among hospital workers.'  Australian research shows that '70% to 80% of medical errors are related to interactions within the healthcare team.'
A dysfunctional workplace where communication is degrading by bullying becomes a closed system.  People are fearful of asking questions or for help when needed for fear of being berated by the bully.  'A culture of disrespect is due to the flawed idea that harshness creates competence.  That public shaming holds us to higher standards.'
With the nursing boards a nurse has his/her name published in newspapers as well as on websites.
When it comes to money - Money is important!  In The Sunday Telegraph, February 9th 2014, Money Section there is an article entitled 'The salary that begins at home.'  The website Dict8 for instance allows medical secretaries to transcribe medical documents from home.  Becoming a virtual assistant is something that you can do from your computer at home and the article gives the names of two Agencies to check out virtualassistants.co.uk or freelancer.co.uk.
Other suggestions are to run a children's class by buying a franchise.  Ones listed are Monkey Music, Caterpillar Music, La Jolie Ronde or Creation Station.  Other suggestions are Tupperware.  As a consultant with Usborne Books, you pay thirty eight pounds for the starter kit.  With the Body Shop you pay forty five pounds or one hundred and twenty-five pounds for Jamie at Home kitchen products.  ROI 25pc at both Usborne and the body shop and 20pc at Jamie at Home.  It may be one of a combination of business's that you can do to bring in the income that you need.
My very best wishes are with you as you restore balance to your life and start earning the income that you deserve.  Many nurses are sending you many good thoughts and wishes for your success as you move forward with your life.
Warm Wishes, Rita.
