Recently I have read a book about a wild life conservationist in Kenya, Joan Root whose life was dedicated to filming and documenting how the animals lived. She was a mother to several orphaned wild animals at her home on the shore of Lake Naivasha in the Great Rift Valley. She married young and as sometimes happens in middle age her husband chose to live with someone new and left her to take care of the home, land and animals that her life had been built around.
This story was particularly near to my heart because I too am from Kenya and used to care for wild animals when they were injured or sick as a child. My sister and I took care of a gazelle or small animal that would resemble a fawn in America. We fed the little creature with a baby bottle and were highly protective or it's environment. We also took in a little monkey at the same time that we were staying on a friend of my parent's farm at Lake Rudolph near the border with Somalia.
This was the first chapter in my life and my memories are still vivid. I no longer can be around the people or events that were the norm for me yet even reading about similar stories brings me back to how my life started out in Africa. There is an African saying that where you are born is your soul's home and that understanding makes it important for African American's who are decendants of slaves to revisit the site in Madagascar where they were shipped to the New World. The ties with our soul's home are real and strong and cannot be brushed aside or put away in our psyche.
The difference now is that I am in terms of life events on my third chapter of the book. After my father died of cancer in Kenya my mother moved us to an English village where she had grown up. In my early thirties I moved to the United States and now am back in the Mid West where I started. I have a grand son and roots here now. Although I have a brother in England with whom I contact on a fairly frequent basis I will stay in the United States as long as I can. The past becomes like a dream and it doesn't bring the pain and anguish that it once did. This is the beauty of a spiritual life. You shed all the ego's heaviness and attachment to people and objects. You are completely freed from pain and that was my experience. Living in the present is a joy because whatever happens is like watching consciousness passing by or an old movie being replayed. There is no attachment to anything now but mindful effort to do things to the highest standard that I possibly can.
Sorrow is part of the ego. It is natural and a person would feel compassion for anyone who feels sorrow. My Teacher has pointed out that when we have a choise to transcend and allow whatever happens to us happen without any movement of feeling in response to the outcome. This is harmony and balance taken to a higher level. We can mindfully equate different areas of our lives and bring them into balance and harmony. Taking that a step further we learn to see all as equal and that keep the balance sustained during times of trial and tribulation. The term that my Teacher has used is Equipoise. This is the goal of yoga to be in harmony whether ourlives are looking good or not. When we get to the point that we are not saddened by the times when we don't have what we want - usually for me that has been money we keep the joy inside.
I mentioned before that I have been told to look upon people who cause difficulties in our lives as Angles. If we are not exposed to people who are able to arouse some negative response inside they are doing us a favor because we wouldn't be aware we still had those issues left inside. All the things that cause disequilibrium are attachments and you will be given opportunities under the Grace of a Master to free yourself from them. You joy is yours and that feeling of bliss is the fruit of your spiritual labor. Treasure what you have and don't give it up when someone acts in a way that is distressing to you. Keep your mind focused on the area of the heart and you will reach that same level of bliss that you will experience in meditation when you are wide awake and engaged in life.
I recommend that you meditate daily, follow a vegetarian diet and journal. You will soon make progress and when you meet your Master for spiritual initiation you will be truly ready for the journey to liberation.
I work as a Professional Life Coach and my passion is to assist people to develop spiritually and from that optimal space inside attain their goals in life. Please feel free to contact me at lawrencerita511@gmail.com

We the people know best.
I have lived half my life in a socialist country and came to America to find opportunity and an environment that would support my personal growth. I chose to pursue higher learning so that I would better understand my work with people with psychiatric illness. At the same time as I was expanding my nursing knowledge I was also undergoing a spiritual transformation. I spent many years with my first Teacher in a mountain retreat in upstate New York. I reached a point where I had achieved a certain level of spiritual attainment where the truths in situations were very evident to me. I think that we all experience an inner knowing in our intuitive self that resonates with the truth and leaves us ill at ease when there are things that are wrong for us. So on the one hand I was ready to do more with my education, but on the other hand I had a deep understanding of what was right for me. I felt confident with my own assessments and diagnoses and when working with children and adolescents who were prescribed strong psycho-stimulants, I realized that I could not get a big enough pay check to make me do something that I knew was not for the children's good.
Since then I have provided therapy in private practice and owned a nursing agency. I am now working as a Professional Life Coach. In this role I assist individuals who seek to make their life better to find the changes that are necessary to make their dreams come to life. My background in mental health makes me especially suited to this kind of work. I also am in a position to help individuals explore their spiritual development and recommend meditation and vegetarian diet as two necessary components that form the platform for self growth. In my experience our lives are propelled and empowered through our spiritual self and relationship with God or our higher power. Whatever a person's religion is they should stay and deepen in relationship with their God. Religion and spirituality are separate in that spirituality is about the relationship with God and how that can be manifest and experienced through meditation, nature and a desire to become one with God. Religion on the other hand has laws and rules that have been taken from the particular teachings and restrain the individual from a deeper experience of God. Yesterday I read an article about a Southern Baptist Minister who condemned yoga as non-Christian. Stephanie Dillon who teaches yoga responded, "My objection (to Mohler's view) personally is that I feel that yoga enhances a person's spirituality...I don't like to look at religion from a law standpoint but a relationship stand point, a relationship with Jesus Christ spiritually."
Having been in the company of two Indian Spiritual Teachers for many years I have seen people from all faiths come to them for the experience that results from initiation or spiritual awakening. These enlightened beings actually vehicles for the Grace bestowing power of God that allows for our own spiritual journey to unfold. The experience is different for each of us but none the less your initiation will be remembered by your own unique inner experience. The spiritual path under the direction of a Master guarantees that you will be guided to enlightenment or oneness with God. In that state you are free from all the attachments, troubles and strife of the limited ego. Your intuition will be expanded to the point that it acts as a screen or filter for incoming data. Your senses become atuned and heightened through regular practice of meditation. Things that were part of your life that are not good for you will fall away. It won't be like giving up a painful addiction. People whom you have associated with who are negative will not want to be around you. They may perhaps attempt to sabotage your new life but will give up when they see you moving on toward the light.
Thoughts are powerful and words have power to create and destroy. It is important to monitor your thoughts. And that doesn't mean that you don't recognize danger and call a spade a spade. You are not given a power to weaken you and make you vulnerable to those who would do you harm. Instead your strength grows and you can move forward no matter how difficult the odds may appear. You will learn to use your higher cortex and be less reactive from the limbic system of the brain. Pause before you react to something. If you are reacting pay attention to what it is about the situation that makes you respond emotionally. Don't ignore what is going on around you. My Teacher cautioned us that the warning signs of abuse are there for us to see and asked why we choose not to see them? One of the things that impressed me about Geert Wilders Berlin speech was that he spoke about our attitues of denial and apathy toward the oppression that is a threat to the West from Islam is like the Berlin Wall - it needs to be recgonized and torn down.
President Obama went to Berlin and although he drew a large crowd who wanted to know about his message of hope he has very little to say about the substance of hope. It leaves people hanging with the expectation that they are going to be elevated by his policies and motivations. Life is not like that. You can have high ideals and aspirations but they have to be put into action in order to make real for everyday lives. In the same way as most of you will be familiar with the Bible pay attention to what God's word has to say. God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. Steep your consciouness in God's guidance and promises. We are in the midst of change not the kind that President Obama's message of hope was about. We are in the process of having the light shined into all the nooks and crannies and what is evil will be revelied. "There is nothing hidden that will not be exposed; nothing concealed that will not be known and brought to light." (Luke 8:17) We are in for some turbulent times because people who would do our country harm have an attitude of entitlement and have used our national characteristic of openess and acceptance as a way to further their agenda to dominate. "Be on your guard; stand frim in the faith; be men of courage; be strong." (ICor 16:13)
These texts from the Bible are to awaken you to pay attention. Do not be discouraged but know that the victory over evil has already been paid for and won. Your job is to stand firm and speak out when you can. Your family is here today because you had ancestors who were strong and could overcome circumstances that threatened their lives. In the same way today we have Islam that is threatening our culture and existence as we know it today. We need to stand firm against outside threats that try to attack our way of law and government. We have 11 South American Countries trying to take Gov. Jan Brewer to court over the Arizona laws to try to bring illegal immigration under control along the unsecured border. These days there is no time to sit on the fense. Know right from wrong and vote for the people who will protect US citizens. Recently there was a woman whose nephew had been murdered by an illegal immigrant in LA. She reported that while only one Congressman who was a Republican supported her wish to speak before a committee about the 30 murders that are taking place each year by illegal immigrants she was denied the opportunity by the Democrats. They should be ashamed of themselves for having a comedian speak to them about illegal immigration. What a dog and poney show that was! Washington has reached new depths in cess pool hygiene and it stinks all the way out across the praries.
In conclusion, don't be discouraged and don't go about your life half asleep. Your liberties and freedoms can be taken from you. They are only guaranteed when you fight to protect them. Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr. - Supreme Court Justice said "I find the great thing in this world is not so much where we stand, as in what direction we are moving - we must sail sometimes with the wind and sometimes against it - but we must sail, and not drift, nor be in anchor." Sail on my friends and be the captain of your ship.

Today reaffirm your belief in yourself.
When your life seems to be going slow or you have a sense of being in a holding pattern it is important to use the inner tools of enlightenment. Your mind will want to take you down the spiral of despair but there is no truth to your life not being just as it is supposed to be because it doesn't fit your definition of where you life should be. Perhaps it is in the financial realm, health, relationship or spiritual development that you feel there is a lag. A spiritual leader used to say "Don't worry be happy!" Quite a lofty ideal set in a few simple words but true non-the-less.
Use affirmations to keep your mind focused on your goals. An affirmation is a short paragraph or sentence that says in positive terms that you will achieve a particular goal. Today I affirm that I will reach out to and uplift a new group of people who will benefit from my work. Today I affirm that I have the benefit of reaping the rewards of the spiritual work done to date and will be supported by the Grace of my Master. This is how affirmations work. They provide the framework for you to build upon to empower yourself on the inside. There is no room for negativity and self doubt when you are filled with powerful words of positivity.
Write your goals down and take the necessary steps (or objectives) to reach your goals. Write three long term goals that you want to achieve by three months out from now. Then write short term goals that go with the long term goal that you will measure in 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks and at the months end. Keep track of your achievements and if something is obstructing your path, (most of us experiences a shortage of funds, time or other resources,) don't think for a minute that it means that your project will be derailed. Instead focus on the parts of your plan that will work until you can draw in the needed money or other resources.
I encourage meditation and prayer. Prayer so that you can ask God for what you need and meditation so that you can listen to what God is telling you to do. Use guided imagery to see yourself with the money you need. If your goal is to earn a set amount of money - make that amount HUGE! Why limit yourself with what the universe can supply. In today's economy it is not unusual to hear predictions about the economy getting worse and worse. This is good to know and we all should be diligent about making plans to survive a crisis and vote for the right person to represent the public good. However, don't get too hung up because ultimately God is in control and his universe is abundant and He wants to give us what we wish for as His children. This is where faith plays an important role in your life. You have to make the practical steps toward your work and caring for yourself and allow God to bring what you need to you. It is more about surrender than control. Know that where doors are closed and things or people in our lives have departed it is another opportunity to elevate your life to new realms of experience.
Letting go and surrender is a slow process for most of us because it is our natural tendency to want to hang on for dear life to what we feel is secure. In actuality nothing is secure and the only thing that is for sure is your relationship with God. Pay attention to who is being brought to you and what resources come to you and use gratitude to infuse potential into all situations. Every situation is like a seed that can grow into a flower or a huge tree like the mighty oak form a small acorn. Surrender to what is and sit back comfortably into your life as it takes the form that you wish your life to be. If your are looking for a broad following then spending time on the web is what will get you to your goal. Surrender to putting in your personal time. I have heard of people who sign up to apps that deliver messages at prescribed intervals on Twitter. In my estimation they are missing out on the real benefit of social networking and that is about relationships. Gaulding who was a Life Coach coined the term "Return on Relationship." You will have to let go of habits such as using technology to cut corners. Prioritize your time and spend as much time as you can building relationships. Surrender means that your faith in God is such that you can depend on Him and Him alone to provide the circumstance and means for you to reach your goals. Praise Him and open your heart with gratitude.
Intention is the clear will that you exert when you set goals and objectives. Intention is like a sharp arrow that is thrust toward the goal or bulls eye from the bow. There is some practice required and like the archer the more skilled he/she becomes the faster and more accurately the arrow hits the target. Having a mind that is one pointed comes through spiritual practices. The one which I insist on having people follow is Meditation. Start with fifteen or twenty minutes then build up to an hour every day. Keep a journal and write down what comes up for you. You may find that your own consciousness will direct you to make certain changes in your business to help you grow and succeed. The more you meditate the easier it is to access that part of you from which creativity springs forth in whatever form that is uniquely for you. Mine is business and teaching through writing and networking. Yours may be music, math, athletics of something else. Don't suppress your creativity because it is a power guide to direct your path that will help you be successful and earn money.
Finding balance in your life will bring the harmony that you need to draw money and success. I have found since spending time with my spiritual Teacher that a disciplined life works best for me. That means eating vegetarian foods. If you are not ready to give up meat eating I recommend you shop at Wal-Mart or another store where they buy from farmers who allow animals free range. Keep your life simple so that your energy can be directed toward your work, thus less distractions with other responsibilities. Every hour of the day should be planned with activities and spiritual practices and reading that will benefit you. Make your life your number one priority and put your needs first. Although we are taught that this is approach is selfish - it is not. My Teacher said that we can have all the zeros in the world but unless we put a one first they mean nothing.
Words are powerful and I want you to read spiritual texts that are meaningful to you. Claim Biblical passages that assure your protection and good. Empower yourself through these truths. Stay away from nonbelievers as much as possible and limit the amount of conversation. If you have to engage with someone who is not positive keep it short and simple. Always be polite but that doesn't mean that you let people tread on you. The work you are undertaking is transformative and it will rattle certain people's cage! When they see the change in you they will attempt to sabotage or bring you down to their level. This is lower human behavior and you will take the higher road. Like a stone being tumbled on the river bed you will become sooth. Let the process happen and keep yourself uplifted. Gandhi said "I will never let anyone walk through my mind with their dirty feet."
Keep your words pure, sweet and simple and breath easy when you feel the pressures of life come upon you. A French proverb says that a good conscience is like having a feather pillow on which to rest one's head at night. Try to do the right things and trust God and trust yourself to live the life of your dreams.

Start where you are - don't fence your self in through inner obstacles.
Somehow it is human nature for us to believe our lives need to be improved in some area such as education or finance and that we cannot start on a course of action because we convince ourselves that the fences are real and allow them to hold us in. Break free of the fences that corral your life into a tight and limited space. Be bold. Be true to yourself and step out into the unknown with confidence. Journal and enquire of yourself what is it that keeps from giving your all to your life. Why do you chose to take the short stick and risk exposing yourself to heights of self discovery and achievement? Only you can do this work nobody else can do it for you. Once you find out what your particular barriers are, you can start to erase and reverse your thinking and experience. Are you afraid of public speaking perhaps which is a common phenomenon because we fear inside that we are going to be ridiculed, not respected or any number of imaginings.
I worked with a young man once who overcame fear of being on stage for his part in a play in front of kids in a new magnet school. We meditated together and everyday at home the young man and his mother made this a regular practice for calming the mind and stilling their inner being. These two results made it possible for him to go in front of an auditorium full of people without fear. He had to experience calm and confidence inside and have a steady mind before he could appreciate what a pleasurable experience sharing his talent was for him. We also used the worrier yoga position that was developed and used by people to tap into that part of our psyche and consciousness that brings out the warrior in us. He literally went from worrier to warrior because of his self effort.
When you identify a part of yourself that doesn't want to participate with you to uplift your life, shine the light into that part of your life and then it will loose its power over you. You are in control of your life and destiny and you can smile at what lies ahead because you can trust yourself to create the right circumstances for your success. If you are afraid of failing school, enroll in school and get a tutor. I have not always got great grades because I believe one of the reasons is that I am an independent thinker. That is not a bad thing but you have to be aware that there will be consequences to seemingly going against the system that you philosophical differences with. For instance I got a low grade from my professor for writing a paper because I didn't agree with applying only one philosophy in the nursing field. For one thing I through it would be boring and for another each individual doesn't fit the same cookie cutter. When you feel what you have going on is not going for you, you have to make it happen through change.
I always tell myself that I can make it through courses. I have taken numerous hours of chemistry for instance and for someone who left school at fifteen it was quite an accomplishment. Pull all your resources together and make sure that you put time and effort into what you do. Give your whole self to what you chose to do and don't go for half measures. Be prepared to sacrifice for your schooling as that will award you with opportunities ahead that you don't yet imagine. Do things the right way. Don't cheat on tests or plagiarise other's work when you write papers to be handed in for grading. It has been my experience that this is quite the norm as I had a mentor in graduate school who was a graduate of Boston University in a very competitive program. Her advise to me was to keep a drawer in a filing cabinet in my Sorority and share papers that particular professors had graded favorably. I saw some of my class mates passing papers between them in the hallways. I would always rather do my own work because you are the one who is going to be accountable for producing that knowledge in your work place by making the right choices and other job performance measures.
Faith and prayer is a big part of how I go about doing things and if God wants you to do a particular thing you will be awakened to and driven by that powerful urge to further your education, buy a particular property or whatever it is. Pray and some people use fasting which works for many and is recommended in the Bible. Be humble before God always and let His love guide you. Be careful for what you wish for the saying goes. Similarly be careful what you pray for because you most likely will receive what you ask for. Once you have been infused with the energy and desire to create wealth, knowledge, health etc., in you life you will then take the next step in the process which is action. Experience yourself energetically in the place where you want your goals to materialize. For instance when I moved to the Bay Area in California I actually could see myself there and had contacted people and thus started the ball rolling. I also cared for one of the most lovable and remarkable people I have ever known. So we might be drawn for a certain purpose and God will have an additional purpose for us as we are His servants here on earth. My friend had an immense influence on my life and I have felt great love for him ever since.
Learn to modify your goals and dates that you have set to achieve them. Bruce Lee said that we don't necessarily have to achieve our goals, it's the process that counts towards our happiness and character building. There are no mistakes, only learning experiences. Meditate regularly and if you feel a certain resistance or block let the meditation guide you to your next step. You have the answers you need inside and you will learn to trust in your abilities to meet all of your needs. Start each day early. My Teacher used to say the best hours for meditation were between 3 and 6 am before the world awakes and the earth is still. Meditation allows you to go deep inside and connect with your higher self. You can take care of your daily chores and self care needs and have your day planned before breakfast! Connecting on the inside makes it easy to focus on what your priorities need to be and what steps are necessary for you to reach your daily goal. Set a main goal for yourself and then break it down to weekly and daily goals. Self talk is important so don't be overly critical if you don't achieve the outcomes you wanted. Be grateful for what you did accomplished and know that the next day you can reevaluate your strategy and start again. Never give up. I repeat never give up. You will be able to make breakthroughs, you just need time. Whatever you give yourself to will yield fruit. When things appear to not be working out you don't know how this will benefit you in the grand scheme of things. It might mean that money will come to you because of a project you have given yourself to and perhaps someone stole the project from you because of their lack of knowledge about universal laws. Know that if anyone intentionally tries to harm you through stopping you from earning the money you deserve it will haunt them. The laws of attraction and karma work that way. It will hit them in the back as they say. Just be patient, use your resources and keep working on your goals. Sarah Palin says that her father told her to "Reload the gun!" That means not walking away from aggressors. Apathy is not a good thing and in my experience is disempowering. Put your power behind what you believe in and keep walking and praying as an African American friend once told me to do.
I will use two quotes to summarize what I have written: "Cherish your vision and your dreams, as they are the children of your soul, the blueprints of your ultimate achievements." ~ Napoleon Hill. "All great achievements require time." ~ Maya Angelou. Walk with the Lord in your heart and your life will shine like a bright star. When you have walked the path don't shut the gate behind you but stand at the gate and welcome others to journey with you to free themselves from their own inner limitations and obstacles that will lead to success. God bless you!

The Three T's to plan around.
My background is in mental health and I write for women mainly because I am not sure that what I have to say will necessarily what men will relate to. High school and college that I attended have been for women mainly because of my field of discipline has attracted more women than men. I hope that you will find the following framework useful as you organize your thoughts around your goals and set your course to take some empowering and positive steps toward your future career.
The three "T's" that I am going to frame this blog around are Trust, Talent and Togetherness. Trust is first because it is not only our first developmental stage in life that sets the foundation for future relationships, it is also measure of how secure we feel in our ability to master certain tasks and challenges thus enabling us to demonstrate self-confidence. Talent is important because we have to be prepared to compete in the programs that prepare us for our career and then continue to grow and develop professionally. We have to learn to become adaptable; learn when to hold on and when to let go; when to bend and when to stand firm. When we are in a space inside ourselves that resonates with our authentic self and we are not living lives that have been ascribed to us or taking on roles that we do not have the natural talent or intelligence for, we then bring forth a quality of work that is both creative and useful to others. When we are able to produce our work from this deep and authentic part of ourselves that is totally not a facade, we enjoy what we do and it creates joy within us that wants to find an outlet to share this knowledge. Togetherness is another aspect of what we are about - we are part of a pack and the opposite of isolated individuals. We belong in community and that is where we grow and become strong. It is important to seek people who are like minded and like spirited because you will find people who will try to diminish your work through jealousy and other behaviors that we shed through inner spiritual work. Don't let anyone put your flame out or try to dull your light!
This is how it comes together when you want to identify what it is that you want to develop or achieve in your life. Identify that objective first and be sure that it is indeed what you want with all your heart and soul. Set a clear intention and see yourself achieving your goal. Act in a way that tells your inner psyche that you already are what you have in mind.
1. Trust your self that you will achieve your aim. Trust first began in infancy when our mother figure met our needs for warmth, food and love etc. We always knew that we would get the responses from that person based on our expressed need. Now you have to know that you can bring together the resources, supportive people, research or whatever it is that you need to proceed and maintain the process toward achieving your goal. Tell yourself that you already achieved many things before this goal and you have reached your goals. This too will be a learning process and you will achieve or manifest your hearts desire. Trust in your ability to care for yourself. If you have so many obstacles standing in your way that feels overwhelming, my teacher used to say to make the problem the same size as yourself. Write down the problems as you begin and find out how you can work through them. Is it coming from your own lack of confidence or fears or an actual deficit in your life such as funds for a business? Be clear and do the work inside and outside to resolve the barriers. You can do it and you will move forward at a steady pace. Keep a journal and record all the things that have been issues for you and how you have managed to problem solve.
2. Talent. You know what you are good at or what you are drawn to do because of your experience. I for instance chose nursing because my father died from cancer of the colon when I was little and the nurses who cared for him and were kind to me left an impression on me that led me to finding a way to become a nurse myself and return what I had been given. Through journal writing and self enquiry find out what motivates you. My motivation comes from a desire to help others and ease their pain - physical, emotional and mental. Your motivation may be to earn money through business. It could be the performing arts. You may want to be an engineer. Whatever you are good at and can build upon is what you should pursue. I was disappointed when I taught nursing students who did not look upon nursing as a calling but rather looked on it as a way of earning fairly decent money and some planned to invest and then switch to doing something else. Think about the moral and ethical obligations of your career choice and the love and energy you bring to others who will come to you for your services. You may benefit from career counseling and going through aptitude testing.
3. Togetherness. When you find the career that is right for you, build a network of people who are either in the field already or like you are in the process of reaching your goal through a course of study. In any group find the one's who are positive and uplifting. Join clubs and societies and go for excellence in your work. Find out through journal writing and self enquiry if you hold back in any areas of study. Work through the barriers and identify why you are holding back and not going for it! Like all things that cause us to not be our best, once identified and openly acknowledged they loose their power and hold on us. This approach is mature and you will find it liberating. The more baggage you try to stuff down inside or hide from people, the less you are to produce your talents from a clear and creative space. You will enjoy your work and want to help others who may need coaching because once you are in a space of creativity you will automatically want to help. It brings joy and that is a motivating feeling.
What I want to emphasise is that it is by being authentic within yourself that you then are able to produce an abundance of creative work. Your talents will manifest with ease and you will enjoy studying, recognizing that you have an ethical duty to do your very best to achieve excellence. You set the bar because that is the level of understanding that you want to achieve for yourself and show in your work with confidence.
